Most of you who are following "this" blog know this already but we have decided to add our names to the Interested Families list for the Special Needs Program. We have spoken to our Family Coordinator and they are sending us an application packet.
What does that mean? Well, when we completed our paperwork last year we requested a healthy female up to 36 months! By adding ourselves to the Interested Families List, we will be able to move through the normal process of adopting a healthy child while having the opportunity to review a special needs child's referral.
The children in the Special Needs Program can range in age from 6 months to 13 years old. They can be male or female, and all have some type of condition that classifies them as special needs. The special needs that are typically seen are cleft lip/palate, heart defect, club foot, hearing or vision problems, hand/foot deformity, Hepatitis B positive, etc. China does not allow childen with any type of diagnosed mental disorder to be adopted. The majority of the children available through this progam have a medically correctable special need. Healthy children over the age of 6 years are also occasionally available through this program.
So that is our most recent update! We'll keep you posted!
